Background & Approach

James is interested in how stories make sense of unfamiliar worlds, whether those worlds are alien, futuristic, or uncomfortably close to our own. His criticism focuses on clarity, structure, and emotional precision, and his fiction often turns on quiet, unsettling shifts in perspective rather than spectacle.

As Writer

On the page, James is drawn to careful prose, layered voices, and the textures of everyday life under pressure. He writes short fiction, longer projects, and hybrid work that moves between narrative and essay.

As Editor & Critic

As an editor and critic, James works closely with writers to strengthen line-level choices, deepen structure, and sharpen argument. He is particularly interested in projects that cross genres or resist easy categorisation.

Current Focus

At the moment, James is concentrating on Human Voices, Alien Conversations and a small number of mentoring and editorial projects. You can read more about the book on its dedicated page, explore other writing on the Works page, or get in touch via the Mentoring and Contact pages.
